The following National History Day projects from Patrick Henry will be advancing to the regional competition today, March 13! We are proud of the dedication and hard work that all of these students put forth! Good Luck!

Congratulations to the Patrick Henry Middle School Math Counts Team for a 1st place finish at the State competition in Ft. Pierre last weekend. Our very own 8th grader, Max Wang, qualified to compete in Washington, D.C. He and three other students from around the state will represent South Dakota Mathletes in May. Good Luck!!!

A few Patrick Henry 8th Grade girls, along with Mrs. Roberts, were able to attend the Pizza, Pop and Power Tools event held last week at the Career and Technical Education Academy. This event was aimed at introducing young women to a career in trade skills and construction. The girls had the opportunity to work with forklifts, carpentry tools, welding equipment and more. Students also met with women leaders in these industries, showing that there is no limit to their future possibilities!

During the recent weeks, Team 6-2 ELA students have been working in groups to save Mrs. Sharping! Based on clues and evidence, students were tasked with creating an argument to support who they thought the Top 3 suspects were responsible for kidnapping Mrs. Sharping. They also had to determine who committed the crime and why. There was a jury of adults who listened as groups presented their claim, evidence and reasoning. The jury selected the group with the strongest presentation in each class period! Students were engaged and took their work seriously knowing they would present to a panel of judges! Nice work, Team 6-2!

Patrick Henry 8th Grade Orchestra and Strings Attached traveled to Brandon Valley High School last week to perform for judges. Clinicians worked with both groups, giving them tips to further develop their musical abilities. Both groups worked hard and had wonderful performances, receiving Division I ratings. Well done, Panthers!

📌Check out what's happening at Patrick Henry this week. Winter sports are winding down and Spring sports are right around the corner!

Reminder that daylight saving happened this weekend! We sprung forward this time, so be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour to keep everyone on time for school on Monday! ⏰

The Patrick Henry Student Council is hosting a Sioux Falls Area Humane Society Donation Drive from March 10-21, 2025. Please donate new collars, blankets, food (dog/cat), toys, bath/hygiene items, beds and food bowls. Students should turn items into their PRO teachers. The PRO that collects the most items will earn a breakfast party! 🐶🐱

In observance of National Cereal Day yesterday, Friday, March 7, Patrick Henry students and staff gave a shout-out to their favorite cereal!

During March, Athletic Trainers are being recognized for their commitment to helping athletes prevent injuries and stay healthy and active. As a healthcare professional, they are highly educated and dedicated to the job at hand. Athletic trainers are found in high schools, middle schools, colleges, corporations, professional sports, the military, performing arts, clinics, hospitals and physician offices.
Patrick Henry Athletics would like to thank Nicole Pederson of Sanford Health for her essential role in providing quality health care for our athletes every day!👏👏

🎉 Happy School Social Worker Week! 🎉 This week, we celebrate the heart and dedication of our school social worker, Allison Reuland, who makes a difference in the lives of Patrick Henry students every day. We appreciate her commitment to our students' well-being, her compassion, and the support she provides. Her work does not go unnoticed and we value everything she does!

Congratulations to the PHMS 8th Grade Jazz Band on a fantastic performance at the Augustana "Jazz on the Upper Great Plains" Festival! This was Patrick Henry's first-ever jazz band competition and out of 11 competing middle school jazz bands, they tied for 2nd place! Grant Hoesing and Edrik Saeger also received Outstanding Soloist awards! These students represented Patrick Henry well by being polite, punctual, and professional. They were great audience members and they were helpful while moving equipment. Well done, 8th Grade Jazz Band!🎷🎺🎵

Who knew such a hard working staff could have so much fun! A group of PH staff members have been meeting each month to discuss Brene Brown's book, "Dare to Lead." A group of staff members also gathered for a late Holiday Party to play pickleball and enjoy time together! Way to go Panther Staff! 💛💙

6th Grade Accelerated Science students learned about organelles and used their knowledge to design "Organelle Wanted" posters! Check our their creativity!

PHMS is participating in the city-wide reading initiative called "Reach for a Sweet Read." For each book finished from March 1-March 31, students and staff are encouraged to come to the library and fill out a gumball to add to our display in the entry of the library. So far, Patrick Henry has added 50 gumballs after Day 1! As a city, we are trying to read 350,000 books . If we reach the city goal, a donation will be made to REACH Literacy to further promote reading in Sioux Falls! Happy Social Worker Week!
In the Sioux Falls School District, every student's journey is unique. For many of the kids we serve, our school social workers are there every step of the way! Whether offering a listening ear, connecting families to resources, or advocating for students' well-being, their dedication ignites hope and creates lasting impact in our schools.
This year's theme, Unite to Ignite: Celebrating Our Impact, is a perfect reflection of how our social workers bring people together to create brighter futures for students.
THANK YOU to our incredible school social workers for your compassion and care!
